U16 Match Report 11/3/2012

Match report - Mt. Druitt Town Rangers vs Dulwich hill 11-3-12,

The journey continued for this popular group of players and the coaching staff in this past weekend as they locked horns with this tenacious and worthy opponent...albeit in a much needed friendly game!
This was as the cliche' goes, a game of two halves and again in physically demanding hot conditions which are not particularily condusive to good football, however the game was entertaining and started very lively from the whistle with a strong showing from Dully who took the initiative and indeed control early on as they camped out in the Rangers' half.
Inevitably about fifteen minutes into the game our combined efforts produced a pearl of a goal, beautifully executed by the industrious "Ben Cortese" from approximately 18 meters outside the box... 1-0. That was then followed by a penalty chance which was comically taken and inexplicably missed by our flamboyant Goal Keeper (part time striker) Jordon Lo Russo.
This was backed up by relentless waves of attack from our striking trio of "Matt Casamento, Nathan Spinola and Michael Konomaniy" who collectively rattled the woodwork on numerous occassions to no avail until the break.
Following the break the Rangers' came at us with everything including the kitchen sink, which hurt and very much had the better of the half notwithstanding our gutsy defensive effort led by our man of the match from the deep south the resilient "Brendan Kellet".
To their credit for the consistent pressure and determination they showed throughout this period they deserved a goal and despite a few good chances that were presented to us in the dying minutes of the game, a draw today would have been a fair result for both teams regardless of a few injuries we sustained during the game, probably attributed in part to our limited preseason program .
This indeed was our last friendly game, incredibly one of only three due offcourse to what can only be described as "russian roulette" weather and whilst this has undoubtebly disrupted our preseason preparation ,there will be no excuses come next weekends' moment of truth when we head north to kick off the season against the formidable Central Coast Mariners - Go Dully!

yours in football,

Mr Jan Kain,

DHFC - U/16"S

Team Manager.

Coaches Tip: be good to your mother...win or lose she'll still love you!
