Ferreira, 23, has signed a one-year contract with the Reds to resume his professional career after a six-month spell with amateur side Dulwich Hill in Sydney.
Ferreira, a right-sided striker, spent four years as a Chelsea junior from 2005 after being discovered by Lisbon giant Sporting.
It was at the Stamford Bridge club, when he occasionally trained with the first-team squad, that Barreiro-born Ferreira crossed paths with the 'Special One' who incidentally hails from nearby Setubal.
"Mourinho is really a good and caring man and he is very different to the person people see on television," he said.
"He makes you feel good and comfortable and sometimes he came up to me to point out what I was doing right or wrong.
"One very important thing he told me was to give 100 per cent all the time because a footballer's career is short.
"That way I will never have any regrets and this will always be my attitude wherever and whenever I play.
"If I always do my best the rewards will come, Mourinho told me. I will never forget that."
Ferreira was rewarded with a contract after satisfying the Reds' coaching staff of his striking ability during a month's trial at Hindmarsh Stadium.
He already has had some game time with Adelaide, most recently in the 4-2 loss to Melbourne Victory in Launceston last week, and he has seen enough to be convinced that he has made the right decision.
"There is a big difference in standard between Dulwich and Adelaide," he said.
"I like it here first because I'm back playing for a professional club and secondly because Adelaide likes to play with two wingers and I can play on both flanks.
"I think we can do very well this season because we are very compact."
Ferreira's signing came too late for the Reds to include him in the AFC Champions League spot.
The side faces Bunyodkor of Uzbekistan in a two-legged quarter-final on 19 September and 3 October.
"Unfortunately I'm not in the Champions League squad because I signed too late and also because the club's three foreigner spots have already been filled," he said.
"So I'm registered only for the A-League."
